The concept
Beotop develops Asymmetric Free Space Optical (FSO) data communication solutions where at least one part is mobile. In comparison to the "complementary", or "competing", technologies such as radio frequency (RF) based wireless datacom, an Asymmetric FSO link provides a high-speed and interference-free communication method which is almost impossible to intercept. Our patented system have been designed in a way that also constitutes a reliable positioning system.
The MVP
In our Minimum Viable Product, part of the concept is used in an application for hand-held power tools in production manufacturing industry, such as in automotive assembly lines. Here, a passive retro-reflector is used. Although no FSO data communication is present in this setup, value is created by providing control and traceability where also a low power VIS laser is guiding the operator.
The tool is enabled only at the correct operation point, whereas it is disabled everywhere else. This is achieved by our production supervising "top-unit(s)" connecting to the facility network (LAN or serial) and interacting with the data communication between the production system and the tool. Control, traceability and guiding is thus achieved without the need of any modification in existing production system. Hence, our system can be installed quickly.
